Community Jobs: Employment Specialists assist and provide support for clients with disabilities in developing positive relationships with community employers.

Through Employment Services we provide career planning, job development, job seeking skills, assistance with resume writing, application processes and interviewing skills.

During this past year, we placed 80 individuals in community employment.

Supported Employment: Designed to assist individuals with most significant disabilities to obtain and retain competitive employment in an integrated setting with effective ongoing support services. This program assures that all individuals are paid at least a minimum wage for their work.




Myths of Hiring a Person with a Disability:

 

Myth: People with disabilities are not reliable.

Fact: People with disabilities tend to remain on the job with better attendance than other employees.

 

Myth: People with disabilities can only do simple, repetitive jobs.

Fact: They have a variety of skills to offer, which differ from individual to individual, from High school to College graduates.

 

Myth: Disabilities are always visible.

Fact: Many people have invisible disabilities such as learning disability, various medical disabilities, mental impairments and disorders that do not prevent them from being productive.

 

Myth: Increases Worker's compensation insurance rates.

Fact: Insurance rates are based solely on the relative hazards of the operation and the organizations accident experience.
